SEObook Review (Part 1)
Not just any SEOBook review...We're talking about THE SEOBook Review, by Aaron Wall. So, without further ado, let's get this show on the road:
SEOBook Review
I bought SEOBook back in the "old days" when it was, well, just like it sounds - a book. An ebook to be exact. More like an eVolume really. It had over 200 real pages (not embellished pages, or pages with a 1" column of text flanked with 3 inches of graphics or white space on each side...)
I knew as soon as I started reading it that it was the real deal, and plenty of it. Whether he kept any of his secrets to himself or not (undoubtedly yes, he's too smart not too) Aaron definitely did not skimp on content or information. Anyway, back to the nonchalant reference I slipped in about the "old days" - SEOBook is no longer a "book." It's now actually a training program supported by, well, a support help desk for one, a forum, a blog, a huge set of free SEO tools, a bunch of discounts and freebies for useful marketing services and products for members only, and the list goes on. In other words, it's more like a self-paced Harvard MBA or PHD in SEO, Search Marketing, Social Media, and...you get my point.
Except that, when you graduate from the SEOBook training program (i.e. you learn and apply it long enough) your earning power very likely will outshine that of a Harvard grads. That may sound a little juvenile, but keep in mind that the top SEOs out there are earning multiple millions of dollars annually, if not personally, than for their respective consultancies. So, yeah, not really a joke there so much. (But please don't construe that as an implication of my own personal SEO earnings...)
In essence, Aaron took his original seobook and split every chapter, and every section of every chapter, into learning "modules" that are accessible within the members only training area of his site. At first it sounds like essentially the same as having a PDF but, not so. Thats because these training modules are updated on the fly and available to members in real time. Compare that to the previous scenario where you would buy the latest version of the ebook, and then every time Aaron would update it (multiple times per year) he would have to re-issue a revised edition of the book.
He was great about doing that, but in order to make it worth his while, he would save up enough changes to justify a re-publish, then email it out, and depending on how busy you are, you would promptly overlook the email and/or get too lazy to download it and then forget about it. Well, I was speaking for myself I guess. Every time I went to the seobook to reference something, I would have to double check my email or log into the site to see if I had the latest version. That's no longer an issue. And that means, updates are more frequent, and timed with the constant changes happening online rather than pending the next re-publish.
But that's kind of secondary, maybe even tertiary (gotta love it when you manage to slip in that word in a blog post) to the real value in the seobook training program. That being that Aaron is a highly successful SEO, and he gives you all the information you could ever want or need (and then some) to be just as successful as he is. He isn't playing any of the very common Internet Marketer games involving selling you information that only makes him more money on the backend, or throwing in upsells for "secrets" that you only get one chance to take advantage of, or whatever. He truly knows his subject, in my opinion, as deeply as any current and acknowledged search expert out there, and he very simply teaches it to you, with a straightforward, almost humble style.
You really pick up on that when you watch his videos (included in the program) or listen to audios (also included.) His training program is of course not a "get rich quick" program that claims to give you the tools to start pulling in 50k a day in affiliate sales - although if you're diligent, I am sure you can hit that goal using the information he provides. The point being, this is a highly comprehensive body of knowledge, in a very technical sense. It's a lot of powerful information, very neatly categorized and organized, and IMHO, should be digested systematically, over a period of time, to give the mind enough time to digest and internalize the principals.
And, if you can do that, you have a reasonable chance of applying those principals and reaping the rewards of doing so. Of course, the web changes fast, so "long term" is all relative here. But, even with all the changes, certain fundamental principals do, and may always, apply. Content rules (used to be static pages, now it's user generated. Still, it rules.) Backlinks rule. (used to be directory links and even reciprocal links. Now it's more about links from blogs, forums, wikis, but still, links rule.)
Mmmmm. I smell garlic and onions frying. I need to go eat dinner, so I decided to make this into a multi-part seobook review. Tomorrow (or whenever I get back to it) I will provide all the "Features v. Benefits" and describe a little more in detail what is included in the seobook program. Until then, feel free to just skip ahead and join up, since the ROI will pay you back many times what you invest. And besides, tax time is here, and ongoing education is a great write off (for next year at this point, but still great.)
